Nick Choban

Nick Choban joined NIU’s Division of Information Technology in July 2012. Previously, Nick held leadership positions in the Office of Information Technology at the University of Minnesota, including Director of Applications Development and Director of Central Computing and Operations. While there, the mainframe environment was migrated to a distributed network and the Internet became the delivery vehicle for customer and institutional systems.

At United Arab Emirates University, Nick was Assistant Provost for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. During his tenure, the University implemented numerous technology enhancements including cloud computing, high-availability infrastructure for strategic systems, a new email system, new academic technology for faculty and students, and a new campus network as part of an entire campus relocation project.

Here at NIU as the Senior Director of IT Applications, Nick‘s primary responsibility is the development and use of information technology in support of the University's vision for excellence in research, teaching, outreach, and lifelong learning. He also supports the University's regional and national presence in information technology.

Nick manages database administration, PeopleSoft, OnBase, and web applications and systems. One of his key responsibilities here will be strategic partnerships with colleges, administrative units and vendors with an emphasis on student needs.

Nick holds a bachelor's and master's degree.
